Discover ways to relieve allergy & sinuses with yoga & deep stretches

Peak allergy season is upon us and I'm constantly hearing coughing and sneezing all around me. Over the counter medications are obviously not cutting it anymore and over medicating ourselves can become a serious problem. So, do we really have to suffer through the migraines, the blurry vision, the constant hacking, and the fog brain caused by allergies yet another year? The answer is no. Certain yoga poses and deep stretching has been proven to increase blood flow and open your lungs/airways, ultimately improving asthma and allergy symptoms. Yes, something so simple as holding a few stretches for 15 seconds, 2x can improve your runny nose, itchy throat, and tight chest. Below are some of those stretches and yoga poses that can help.

Make sure to take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth while holding the poses. Rather than counting the seconds while you hold each stretch, count your number of deep breaths, taking about 5-6 deep breaths in and out, then releasing the pose. Do each pose 2-3 times in the morning and at night or whenever you are feeling super congested. A few essential oils that can aid in opening up the airways, improving congestion, include peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, oregano, clary, and rosemary. I have always been one to avoid medication until the very last natural remedy has been tried. I believe that this has boosted my immune system and ultimately keeps me from getting sick each year.
