MEET MAYRA

Registered Dietitian at Fit Therapy of Texas

Mayra is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from California State University, Chico. In 2017, she moved to San Antonio, Texas and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Incarnate Word. After accomplishing her certification she decided to make Texas her home and the place where she will pursue a career in the health and wellness field.

Mayra's interest in nutrition began after my personal experience with an eating disorder. In college  she signed up for an intro to nutrition course with the intention of becoming a healthier version of herself. However, it also led her to take on a different career path and pursue a degree in Dietetics. Learning about the essential roles that nutrients have in the human body helped her have a better relationship with food and inspired her to want to help people understand how to fuel their body.

As she pursued her major, she became involved in a lot of community nutrition outreach programs. Mayra's community work showed her that there is a need for more education on preventative care.  She has worked with all ages in the community and clinical settings and have assisted in nutritionally treating diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses.  Interacting with patients and clients made her realize that  many did not have the support and guidance to make the changes that would of helped them in the long run. Her goal is to be a resource for sustainable health and decrease the risk of chronic illnesses.

People’s relationship with food, fitness, and health is complex. As an aspiring Dietitian, she believes in a compassionate and client-centered approach to healing. Her passion comes from these experiences and she simply wants to help people be their best version.

In Mayra's free time I am very involved in jiu-jitsu; the sport has taught me to work-hard, persevere, and be patient. She also enjoys hiking and cooking with her friends.
